| Student Spotlight - Gianni Miller |
|
Gianni Miller,
4th grade student at Highland Park's Henry
Ford Academy, is proud to say that he has made a
significant improvement in his grades since the
beginning of the school year. "I was getting
D's and C's in the begining," says Gianni, "now I am
getting B's." Gianni's mentor Harold Gardner,
Senior V.P. at DTE, has also noticed the change in
Gianni's confidence. "He has always
had a great attitude and bright smile, but now he is
more willing to speak up without being asked," said
Gardner.

"The thing I like most about Ned is he
truly wants to see us achieve and does not want us to
fail. It is amazing how much faith he has in all
of us," says mentee Patrick Rife of Cousino High
School. Being a business owner in
Warren, Ned Piccinini, Owner of MCM Learning
Inc., feels it is important to give back to
his community. Ned believes that in today's
society, people really expect less from youth, yet from
his experience with mentoring, he believes
that kids are just waiting for someone to expect
great things from them. "My mentees know
I am there to help, but I think I get 10 times more out
of mentoring then the students. They teach me
and keep me grounded," says
